Here’s a dish for all of you that loves a little kick with your pasta!
Do you ever sometimes feel like you run a full on cafe in your house? …because I do. But this is a dish my lunch crowd agrees on! Everyday, when the boys come home during lunch time, I try to be a little creative so they can all agree on eating the same dish. We are a family that LOVES to kick up the spice! So this was purely a winner!
The Firehouse Habanero Skillet is made with large bites of habanero filled sausages, fire roasted tomatoes, garlic and pasta. Then topped with mozzarella cheese and melted under the broiler.
This is a meal you can make and have on the table in less than 30 minutes!
For this recipe, I used some Firehouse Habanero Sausage links. You can ask the butcher at your local grocery store, if they make it. (But if you live here in Utah, I found these at Harmon’s.) Take the casings off 3 large sausage links and cut into large pieces. Flatten them a little to get them to cook fast all the way through.
In a skillet on medium heat, brown the sausages on both sides.
Add one can of fire roasted tomatoes with garlic to the sausage. Do not stir. Just let the tomatoes cover the sausage. The sausage will finish cooking on the inside of each piece. Simmer on medium-low heat and cover with a lid for 20 minutes.
While the sausage and tomatoes are simmering, start boiling the water for 2 cups of uncooked pasta. I used the veggie bow tie pasta. Cook 2 minutes under what the directions call for. Because they are going to finish cooking in with the sausage and tomato mixture.
Add the pasta to the skillet. Stir everything together. Then sprinkle with mozzarella cheese.
Depending on the skillet you are using, you can stick it under the broiler in the oven to melt the cheese. Or you can put the lid back on the pan. Leave it on the hot burner, but turn it off. This will melt the cheese just as fast.
Serve this with your favorite green salad and maybe some Garlic Cheesy Bread.
This whole amount is always devoured at my house by only 2 high school boys for lunch! Depending on how hungry your crowd is, this will serve 2-4 people. This recipe can easily be doubled. If you don’t want to go as spicy, go ahead and use your favorite sausage.
What is your favorite spicy dish?
Enjoy my friends!
