This is the perfect treat to make when your taste buds are wanting to dive into a German Chocolate delight!
These German Chocolate Fudge Bars have all the delicious-ness of a cake but just in the form of bite-size bars. It has a bit of a twist with some honey roasted nuts and a fudgy middle. You can definitely make these with your favorite kind of nuts. (Or you could minus the nuts from this recipe for those of you with allergies.)
These bars will not disappoint you. I promise!
I was originally thinking of baking a German Chocolate Cake from scratch for my bff…aka, my ex-husband. But, then changed my mind for a faster version! He devoured these in no time! Hey, when it’s your birthday, I think you have every right to celebrate…even with a whole batch of German Chocolate Fudge Bars!
These bars are a breeze to make. It all starts out with a German Chocolate Cake mix for the bottom layer. Then making your way up to a delectable fudgy middle layer. And finally, topped with coconut, honey roasted peanuts and more chocolate!
For the base of these bars, melt a cube of butter into a large mixing bowl. Open a package of German Chocolate cake mix into the butter. Then add a beaten egg.
Stir the batter with a spoon. Pat into a 9×7 inch baking dish, lined with parchment paper or foil. Cook in a preheated 350 degrees oven for 8 minutes. (Note: You could use a 9×13 pan but the bars will be thinner. And the baking time will differ.)
While the cake layer of the bars is baking, prepare the fudge to lay in the middle.
Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a small sauce pan. Take off hot burner and add 1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips into the hot butter. No need to put back onto the burner…just stir until the chocolate is all melted. Set aside.
Put 4 ounces of room temperature cream cheese in a mixing bowl. Pour in one can of sweetened condensed milk. And mix together. Add the melted chocolate/butter mixture to the cream cheese mixture. Stir all together until combined.
When the cake layer is finished baking for the full 8 minutes, sprinkle 1 and a half cup of honey roasted peanuts on top. Pour the cream cheese and chocolate (aka, the fudge layer) mixture on top of the peanuts.
Sprinkle 1 and a half cups of coconut on top of the cream cheese and chocolate mixture. Continue to add one cup of honey roasted peanuts and one cup of chocolate chips. Bake in the oven for an additional 22 minutes. Allow to cool completely. Cut into squares. These make about 16-24 bars. (Depending on how big or small you want them.)
I couldn’t wait any more to start cutting into these bars! But for a less chocolate hot mess… it’s better to let them set over night.
Needless to say, these were definitely a huge hit for the birthday man requesting a veggie tray for his next birthday!
Enjoy my friends!

Your recipes all sound so wonderful, yummy and fattening – not necessarily in that order.
You use “cubes| of butter in your recipes… here in Canada we do not sell or buy butter in ‘
“CUBES or STICKS” – could you please tell me what the actual measurement that a “cube| is?
I know a ‘stick’ is 1/2 cup but can’t figure out the whole cube business.
Thanks ever so much. Please keep sharing and posting these fantastic recipes!

Thank you for informing about how it is up where you are! (Had no idea.) 1 cube of butter is 8 tablespoons. Thank you for coming over to leave such sweet words! (=
