German Chocolate Fudge Bars

These German Chocolate Fudge Bars have all the delicious-ness of a cake but just in the form of bite-size bars.
Ingredients
  • 1 box German Chocolate Cake mix
  • 1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons butter, melted, divided
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips, divided
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 and a half cups honey roasted nuts, divided
  • 1 and a half cup coconut
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Cake Layer:
  3. Melt 1/2 cup (1 cube) of butter in a large mixing bowl.
  4. Add the package of the German Chocolate Cake mix into the melted butter.
  5. Add 1 beaten egg into the butter and cake mix. Stir together.
  6. Pat evenly into a 9x7 inch baking dish, lined with parchment paper or foil.
  7. Bake in the oven for 8 minutes.
  8. Fudge Layer:
  9. Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a small sauce pan. Once melted, take off heat.
  10. Add 1 cup chocolate chips and stir. (The chips will melt onto the hot butter.) Set aside.
  11. Put 4 ounces of room temperature cream cheese in a mixing bowl.
  12. Pour in the can of sweetened condensed milk.
  13. Mix together with a whisk or hand mixer.
  14. Add the melted chocolate/butter mixture to the cream cheese mixture.
  15. Stir all together until combined.
  16. When the cake layer is done baking for the 8 minutes, sprinkle 1 and a half cup of honey roasted peanuts on the top.
  17. Pour the fudge layer on top of the peanuts.
  18. Sprinkle coconut on top of the of the fudge layer.
  19. Continue to add the other 1 cup of honey roasted peanuts and 1 cup of chocolate chips.
  20. Bake in the oven for an additional 22 minutes.
  21. Allow to cool completely.
  22. Cut into squares.
  23. These make about 16-24 bars. (Depending on how big or small you want them.)
Notes
You could use a 9×13 pan but the bars will be thinner. And the baking time will differ.
