Don’t you just LOVE homemade shakes! No matter if it’s sunny or snowing, I could have a frosty ice cream shake any time!
At my house, we sometimes have “Make Your Own Shake” nights. The kids add whatever they want for their very own creation. Most of the time, it gets pretty interesting. I will say though, ketchup is NOT included…but french fries are usually dipped into the shakes!
This Cookie Dough Vanilla Milk Shake has homemade cookie dough crumbled into creamy vanilla bean ice cream. A bit of flavored Vanilla Milk is added to make this a well blended thick shake.
First, I’m going to show you how simple it is to make your own (egg free) cookie dough. It takes less time than you’d think. I adapted this cookie dough recipe from Shelly over at Cookies & Cups about a year ago. It has been my go-to cookie dough recipe ever since.
Have all your ingredients out and ready. Butter, sugar, brown sugar, vanilla, flour, 1 tablespoon milk (not pictured) and mini chocolate chips.
Blend a cube of softened butter. Add both of your sugars and cream together.
Combine the flour and vanilla into the mixture.
Scrape down the sides and add 1 tablespoon of milk. Only mix it until it is all combined.
This is the consistency you want for the dough. Stir in 1 and 1/4 cups of mini chocolate chips into the dough.
Divide out the cookie dough into teeny tiny bite-size pieces and put onto some parchment or wax paper. Cover and refrigerate for about 30 minutes. Or you could set them into the freezer for less the time…and then these babies are ready to be blended in with some ice cream!
Grab your favorite vanilla ice cream. (I used vanilla bean.) And take out the very cold cookie dough and flavored vanilla milk. (Regular milk is fine with some vanilla extract added to it.)
For each individual serving, put 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream into a blender. Put a few (or as many as you want) of cookie dough on the two scoops. Layer with 2 additional scoops and more cookie dough on the very top. Add 1/4 cup of vanilla milk and mix until all combined. (Note: You can use more or less milk…this makes a medium consistency shake.)
Pour into a medium sized glass and top with some more crumbled pieces of cookie dough.
Now you have yourself a homemade Cookie Dough Vanilla Milk Shake! It’s so creamy and frothy. I couldn’t wait for the photos to be done– this shake just keep saying to me, “Eat me”…so I did! (It was a.m.a.z.i.n.g!) This by far, is the perfect refreshing treat to make for what ever kind of day it is…rain, snow or shine!
What consistency do you like your milk shake to be?
Do you like to enjoy it with a straw or a spoon? (I guess if it’s got a lot of delicious gobs of greatness in it…then the straw doesn’t really work, now does it?)

It’s a lot of fun to set out all the goodies and let the kids go at it! Even when they get to pick out the ingredients out at the store…then that sure get interesting! But they really eat the whole thing…it reminds me when they fill up their own cup at the soda fountain and they get EVERY single soda in one cup! Cracks me up every time! (“Here, taste THIS!”…lol) Thanks Tina!!! Have a fun and happy Friday!
