Pumpkin and chocolate… all in a cookie!
Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies are my most favorite cookies to bake (and eat!) all pumpkin season long.
Sometimes, it’s once a week.
These are addictive.
And delicious!
These cookies have the right balance of pumpkin and cinnamon swirling around the (many) chocolate chips. All together, it is just a happy place!
Making these are a breeze!
Cream together the butter and sugar.
Add the eggs until they are combined with the sugar and butter.
Time for the star of the show, pumpkin!
Use canned pumpkin purée. It’s as good as, if not better than fresh pumpkin. Make sure you get the can that is 100% pure pumpkin, rather than the “pumpkin pie filling”. The difference is, you get to put the right amount of whatever spices into the pure pumpkin.
Speaking of the spices… add cinnamon and nutmeg in with the flour and baking soda. (I also used 1/8 teaspoon of cloves. But, since it is not really common to have in most spice racks… it is optional.)
Slowly shake in the flour and cinnamon mixture while mixing on low. TIP: Remember to not over mix batter when you add the flour. As soon as you don’t see any more flour hanging around on the batter…you are done mixing.
Sprinkle in some regular size chocolate chips.
Then some small, mini chocolate chips. The more, the merrier!
Drop cookie dough on a baking sheet lined with a baking mat or parchment paper. (I used a medium cookie scoop.) These cookies do not really spread. But always make sure you give cookies enough space to breathe in the oven. They do need their space!
These Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies are meant to be super soft cookies.
And, they’ll stay soft for up to 4 days!
You’ll for sure have more than one chocolate chip in every single bite!
I hope you enjoy these cookies as much as I do. I’ve developed this recipe many years ago when my boys were just little. The boys were always wanting pumpkin cookies from the bakery section in the grocery store. But, then they always ended up in the garbage can. I decided then, to make my own Pumpkin Chocolate Chips Cookies that the boys would devour. And, they do!
Enjoy, my friends!
- ½ cup butter, softened (I use “unsalted” butter– all the time)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup pumpkin (canned pumpkin purée, do not use pumpkin pie filling)
- 2½ cups all purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon nutmeg
- ⅛ teaspoon cloves (optional)
- 2 cups chocolate chips
- 1 cup mini chocolate chips
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Whisk together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and nutmeg. (Cloves are optional.) Set aside.
- Cream together the butter and sugar.
- Add the eggs. Blend until combined.
- Mix in the pumpkin.
- Slowly shake in the flour and cinnamon mixture while mixing on low.
- Stir in all of the chocolate chips.
- Use a medium cookie scoop to scoop cookie dough onto a covered baking sheet. (Cover with a baking mat or parchment paper.)
- Bake for 15-17 minutes. Allow the cookies to finish “baking” on the hot pan for additional 5 minutes when taken out of the oven.
- Store in an air tight container for up to 4 days.
- Enjoy!

If you love pumpkin, you are going to love these:
Pumpkin Cinnamon Oatmeal Cookies
I made pumpkin choc chip cookies last fall and it’s nice to see you baking with pumpkin in the middle of the summer. (me too, I just havent blogged about it!)
I love pumpkin so much that I buy the cases at Costco to last me for the fall season. By January, I’m so tired of it…but July/August comes around and I’m ready to get back into it! Thanks, Averie!
I love the orange-y colour of the dough! I can almost smell the pumpkin and cinnamon…

OMG Gloria, these sound amazing!!! My daughter is a really a little pumpkin head – she just loves anything with pumpkin and she’ll absolutely love these!!! She has been telling me for weeks to make some pumpkin recipes – her birthday is coming up fast, so she’ll get her pumpkin for that. 🙂 Love this recipe! Pinning and buffering! I’m ready for fall, but since we are going on vacation at the end of August, need to stay in summer mode for a while longer. 🙂 Have a great Wednesday!

Cindy, your daughter will love these then! I actually use my cake stand with the huge glass lid as my cookie jar…and I can constantly hear it clang while my Easton is eating cookies all day. Maybe I should put them into a non-see-through cookie jar. Then, maybe they wouldn’t be staring at me as much, too! Thanks, Cindy!
These cooking look amazing. I love adding pumpkin into both sweet and savory things to give them a fall feel. 🙂

Tina, you have got to try these then if you’ve never tasted one. The ones in the grocery store (at least in my 60 mile radius) taste nasty. They have (I think) a lot of ginger in them …and super dry. That’s why I had to create a recipe for my boys (and myself)!
Thanks, Tina!
I am SO glad that you posted a pumpkin recipe! Move over apple season, I am ready for pumpkin!

Krista, fall is my absolute favorite season, too! I’ve actually been married in the fall (twice!)– but never in the mountains. (In a building, then in Hawaii.) I told Justin we should get “re-married” with all the pretty colors of fall next yr. He thinks I’m crazy…but it’s our 10 yr, next yr. Wouldn’t you?!
Hope you’re having a great relaxing weekend! (=
You totally should!!! It would be absolutely beautiful. It would be a perfect way to celebrate 10 years. Get on board Justin. 🙂
These are scrumptious cookies
Using pumpkin in baking is not very popular here so I think I might surprise everyone….. 🙂

I already bought some little goodies like mini baking loaf pans and twine to use with some pumpkin bread and pumpkin muffins you can bet I’ll be making!
I love these cookies. They just scream “reach through the screen and eat me!” They look so good. Pinning!

I just made this yesterday and my family loves them! They are a little different from traditional cookies which I didn’t realize until I was mixing the wet and dry ingredients (and then I noticed you clarified this yourself above :)) but they taste great nonetheless. Thanks for the recipe!
